Goals for 2020 – Do It
Goals for 2020
A little late this month but these are our goals for 2020. We did alright on achieving our goals for 2019, but failed in some categories. Financially things got messed up with some sales, but I don’t see that happening this year. The momentum should grow quicker this year.
My biggest goal this year will be to tighten up, physically. Love handles are alright and I rock a mean dad bod but I’m currently 206 lbs and haven’t worked out for quite some time. Being a dad is time consuming but I’m sure I can carve out half hour here and there to improve in this regard.
Anyways let’s get to the goals.
Dividends – Our year end forward income in dividend’s last year was 5,786.58. My goal this year is to bump this up to $7,500. A 22.85% increase or $1,713.42. Last year we increased that income $459.02 from dividend raises and Drips. While that number should be slightly higher this year as the portfolio is larger based on that figure we would need $1,254.40 from new investments. Roughly $100 a month. This may be hard as I don’t want to focus on yield, but I think it can be done.
Etf – A goal I already started to achieve was opening an account with questrade to get a ex Canada etf. Questrade offers basically free etf purchases, which is really nice. My goal is to start a position in xaw.to and contribute $250 a month to it moving forward. This is a fantastic way to further help diversify the portfolio.
This month I already did this and you can read about it here. We deployed $1,000 to get the ball rolling.
Giving – We want to continue to give to charity’s. Last year we signed up to contribute 50 bucks a month to the nature conservatory of Canada. We will continue to do this, but we are debating increasing this to 75 a month or donating 25 to a different Charity that my wife feels strongly about.
Like I Mentioned earlier, this may be my #1 goal for 2020. I used to workout a lot and have a bench, dumbbells and pull-up bar in the garage. Unfortunately its basically been collecting dust for the last 2 years. I really enjoy kayaking too, so we have been looking for a good rowing machine as I think I would use this a tonne for cardio.
180 lbs – Anyways I’m currently 200 lbs, while I have a big build. There’s fat there for sure. It’s time to commit the time to improve in this regard. I will work out 2-3 times a week and my goal is to get down to 180 again by the end of the year. It’s been a long time since 180. I’m not aiming for ripped abs or anything, I still love to crush a couple cans from time to time! Just tighten up and beef up these man boobs. haha!
Diet – My weakness, carbs, cookies, gummies, late night snacks. I need to cut back on my late night snacks and possibly cut back on my carbs. One thing I started doing in December is having meat free nights. There are a lot of documentary’s on netflix about meat based protein. The environmental impacts and also the effects on the body.
I’m no chef to be honest. I can do a good bbq and throw on some Montreal steak spice, grill some veggies and cook a mean pot of rice in the rice cooker.
I really want to improve here and having been busting out some nice curry dishes, which the kids hate but me and the wife love. My goal for 2020 is to improve my cooking skills and have at least 1 night a week of plant based protein meals instead of meat. If you got some god recipes please let me know.
Reading – I failed on this category last year. I wanted to read 10 but only read 7. Seven books is still great. This year my goal is to read 3 books I would normally not consider. I’m a big fan of Bill Gates and he always recommends some good reads that I surely wouldn’t pick off the shelves. It’s time to expand my mind into areas I wouldn’t normally consider. One book really stands out that I think would be great. Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker. You can read gates notes about it here.
Garbage – Another Goal from 2019 was to pick up garbage. We did it while walking the dog but never went out of our way to do it. This year I want to go out at least 3 times purely for this. Drive to a beach, skip some rocks and grab a bag or two of garbage. There is always a lot of crap at beaches. Maybe park on the side of the road and clean up all the litter people throw while driving. Remember – Noone Likes A Litter Bug.

Hey I’m Rob, creator of Passive Canadian Income.
In 2011 me and my wife had almost $60,000 in debt and a negative $7,000 Net Worth. Through hard work and financial education we paid all that off. Now we are focusing on increasing our Passive Income Streams to make the money work for us.
