August 2018 – Passive Income Report
August 2018 – Passive Income Report
Hello! August was another fantastic month. The weather was nice and did our best to keep busy. We went to our buddies cottage 2 weekends in a row. The fishing was actually great and we caught a tonne of Walleye and Bass. No Lunker’s though and we released them all for next time.
We are lucky to have such cool neighbors that around our age and the kids go to school together, so we setup a pig roast/ potluck date. It rained a bit, but we tried to take advantage of that by busting out the slip and slide. Good times.
The wife and I took the kids to wonderland the other day, always good times! Have you seen the new coaster they are making next year? It looks crazy and is going to break all these records. Canada’s Wonderland is calling it, “the world’s fastest, longest and tallest dive coaster” – I think I’ll stick to the ghoaster coaster. haha!
Overall a great month, filled with good times! Well our car broke down and we had to get a newer one. That sucked….. Haha! On to the Money.
Raises or Cuts
After not getting much raises the last couple months, this month threw down some raises.
- Sienna Senior Raised their dividend 2% which adds .58 cents to our forward dividends. Haha! This is one position I have wanted to add to but haven’t. Its such a small position.
- Richie Bros Auctions Raised theirs by 6%. Sweet! The stock popped nicely after that, then my car broke down. I sold this whole position cashing in on roughly a 50% profit in less than a year.
- Emera boosted theirs by 4%. This raise added $8.37 to our forward dividends.
- Bank of Nova Scotia added another 3.66% to theirs aka 3 cents a share. Which adds $3.12 to the totals.
Overall we added $12.07 to our total from these raises. Richie would of added a nice chunk more as it was one of my biggest holdings but it made sense to cash out for the car.

Conclusion
Overall it was another great month all around. As we roll into September we know the dividends will be juicier, the air will be crispier and our son go’s back to school. The good times will keep rolling!
The website also surpassed its all-time high for traffic in a month set back in December last year by 10% in August. I used to post twice a week, but started to get burnt out and decided to only post once a week.
Thanks to all of you for the continued interest, motivation and holding me accountable to do/be better. It really is a great feeling being a part of this community and seeing the progress of both the blog and our finances. Together we do help each other grow, Thanks again.
Cheers
How was your month? Do anything cool? Hows your dividends?
Hey I’m Rob, creator of Passive Canadian Income.
In 2011 me and my wife had almost $60,000 in debt and a negative $7,000 Net Worth. Through hard work and financial education we paid all that off. Now we are focusing on increasing our Passive Income Streams to make the money work for us. Feel Free to Follow along the Journey by clicking the Social Media links below or subscribing to get notified of new posts on the sidebar.
Rob is on the run! Another great month on the dividend side of things.
How’s the new car?
hey Cheese
The wife basically got it, so i got the old civic. We did go to the drivein with it on the weekend. That was nice.
Thanks man!
God damn , 4 digits of passive income again…awesome. looks like some good family time too.
Congrats on flipping the stock for a new car. Not looking forward to having to get a new car…hopefully can get a few more years out of ours 🙂
Also, almost 70% YoY growth in dividends…crazy
hey Jordan
Haha thanks man. Its always crazy seeing these results as we all write them down and start tracking our progress.
Thanks about the car, it was a great move. One that we maybe should of done sooner.
Cheers man. Hope your car keeps keeping on!
Great stuff Rob, love the 11 DRIPS, I wish we could do it here in The Netherlands. Nice YoY of 68%, keep up the good job!
DI
hey Dutch
Thanks! Im surprised theres no drips there any idea why?
cheers
Congrats on another great month PCI! A 66% YOY increase is very impressive. Keep it up! 😀
hey dynasty
Thanks man, you have been doing great as well.
keep it up
cheers
Very solid month with some nice raises as well. Sounds like a good time was had at the cottage, and that is a great way to deal with the rain and make it into something exciting rather than letting it dampen the mood (pun kind of intended).
In addition to the nice dividend income, those other passive income streams look like they are treating you well. That is great to see. Keep up the great work and hope that new car serves your family well for many years to come!
hey dd
For sure, summers seem to fly by. We need to really put the effort out to enjoy it while we can.
The cars doing great and its nice to have all the newer features ie bluetooth, and maps on the dashboard.
cheers man!
This month is one of my low months. My totals will be lower going forward as I sold that big position in D.UN inside my margin account. I not have the margin loan either, so I consider it a win-win!!
Your kicking it! Before you know it you will replace the two hundred plus dividend income in know time.
A good man gives his wife the newer vehicle which allows peace of mind for both of you.
hey Ip
yeah i saw that, most likely a good move taking some profits and paying off the loan as interest rates rise.
slowly but surely the incomes keep going up, thats all that matters long term.
Its true about the car. cant put a price on the piece of mind.
cheers
Your graph compared to last year looks insane!! You guys are doing amazing.
Looks like you’ll likely hit your $15,000 passive income goal!
Also congrats on the record blog traffic!!
hey Gym
Definately love looking at the progress on the graphs. It pretty sweet to see those bars grow.
I think the 15k goal will be tight as solar starts to wind down, but heres hoping!
cheers
Dividend raises are great. I love to own dividend growers, collect the dividend payments and sell cover call options on those stock to earn even more income. With the income generated, I buy more stocks. I love this cycle.
hey Leo
Sounds like a great cycle. Your options post seem to be schooling me a bit, so its only a matter of time before i dip my toes in.
cheers
Another great month. Almost hitting the 10k mark for passive income this year is awesome. Love the scenery in the picture too. Looks like a fun and relaxing time. Went camping myself a few weeks ago. Nice to get out a little bit.
hey Daze
Thanks man, yeah it will be a pretty decent mark to hit.
Buddys cottage location is perfect and the views are great. Glad you went camping and took advantage of the season.
cheers man!
Nice month on personal and financial front! How do you like the newer car? Must be a smooth ride! Love seeing that YoY increase to your dividend income. Keep it up!
hey German
haha alot smoother than my old car thats for sure!
Thanks man
cheers
Awesome month Rob keep it up. Looks like your enjoying the summer! Hope the new ride is treating you well. See you next month!
hey Brian
No complaints at all. Life is good.
Thanks for popping by, until next time
Cheers
good job. yeah that sucks you had sell some stocks but a reliable car is also needed. hopefully you can get back to where you were soon. 67 percent higher is awesome, and the website is drawing in the traffic. i check mine just for fun. If General Mills returns to increasing their dividend you will have good resluts for years.
hey Doug
The car move sucked but at the same time, i wish i did it sooner!
Im not worried about general mills. Did they overpay for blue buffalo? yeah i think so. But the more i read into that stuff dog food has some of the highest profit margins out there and people spend a tonne on their dogs! Its a great way to diversify their product lines. Gm has been around a lonng time, they will adapt and ill continue enjoying these cheap drips =)
cheers Doug!
Another impressive month logged, Rob. I especially like that outstanding YoY growth. Nice to see some new dividend payers for you, including a couple U.S. names I hold in PG and CVS.
Were you lucky enough to not have to clean all the fish you caught?
hey Paul
Thanks man, love pg and cvs wish i could add to them, but doesnt make sense at the moment. Next year..
Generally I release what ever I catch but the odd time ill filet one for a nice fish fry.
cheers!
Awesome Rob, 11 drips is great. As DI said, shame we don’t have those here in Holland.
We share PG and GIS this month!
hey Robot
Thanks alot! yeah the no drips sucks…
We share 2 great companies!
cheers
