July 2019 Passive Income Totals

Hey Hey Hey

Man, Am I ever enjoying this summer! I really hope you are as well.

Its crazy that we are a couple days into August already. July was an extremely busy month. We took advantage of the weather and went camping/cottaging/glamping a lot. All together we were away 15 days this month in 4 weekends.

  • We went to Macgregor point for the Canada day long weekend
  • A neighbors cottage for 4 days after that.
  • Some campground in Goderich with my entire family for about 5 days.
  • Just Came back from the koa in Michigan with the wife’s cousins and our kids.

It has been a fantastic month to say the least, but I’m happy to say we have no plans as of right now to go away this month. I’m really looking forward to just vegging poolside around here, kicking the ball around and tossing some Frisbee.

We did a little shopping in Michigan and I seriously noticed how dead the mall was….. Half the stores weren’t even there. I asked an employee if it’s normally like that and she mentioned its a little busier at the moment because of back to school.

Now I can some what understand the market hating Brookfield Property Partners buying all those malls… It seems like its dying there, Canada’s malls are still pretty occupied and busy.

The Koa in Michigan is one of the biggest koa’s out there. It was pretty impressive, but also a whole different kind of camping/cottaging. We had about 5 mini cottages and had our own little crescent. The park felt like a city to me essentially, street lights, plaza’s and really busy roads. (from golf carts) You could even get pizza delivered to your site! Crazy… haha

All this time off with family and friend’s really makes me feel like we are living the dream…………… It’s Fantastic!

Raises or Cuts

Nothing happened in this category this time, which is a nice improvement over last yr when corus cut their dividend.

Our Drips (Dividend Reinvestment Program) added $15.60 to our yearly forward dividend’s this month.

A 19% growth rate, Sweet! Making more money, while working less. This is what it is all about. The 500 dollar mark is oh so close, but with this months newest purchase it will be a old target.

Other Income

Private Investment Payment – $500.00

Nothing new here, just our regular monthly payment. (I don’t even have to edit this part every month) Steady Eddy…….

Solar Income

In June (We always get paid a month later) our solar panel system generated 1,373 kWh. Since we bring in a fixed rate of 28.8 cents per kilowatt hour, Hydro One deposited $395.42 into our chequing account this month.

Mmmmmm so satisfying. I love seeing these totals. Almost $400 getting deposited while I lay there on my hammock, Who wouldn’t like that?

Not a massive Gain, but last year I got paid from Amazon and solar was 15 bucks higher. With all those sales though, I’m pretty happy with that.

June 2019 Purchases

We continued to bulk up our newest position in our resp account, by adding 22 more shares of Bell Canada this month.

Goals Update
  • I want to read 10 books this year. I finished reading The Richest Man In Babylon this Month and am halfway done reading Neil Pasricha’s Book – The Happiness Equation. Both books are great but the richest man in Babylon has just became my favorite finance book. Go Read it! 4/10 all yr.
  • Get A Will – DONE. You can read about that here.
  • Picked up some Garbage – Nothing special, saw some garbage and threw it out.
  • Charities – Committed to donating $50 a month to The Nature Conservancy of Canada. In a year will either contribute more or let my wife pick a charity she feels strongly about. (It comes out every month – set it and forget it)
  • Increase Dividends by $1,100 this year. With New Purchases, Drips and Dividend Raises this month we added $85.34 to our dividend Portfolio. So far in 2019 we have added $691.60 (%62.87 of our goal.) (Lost $446.94 on sale for car, but want to keep this separate)
  • Reduce Screen Time before BedThis was easy this month, spent time in front of the fire most of the month =)
Conclusion

A fantastic month both on the recreation front and financial front. Clearly our incomes (from our jobs) took a little beat down last month with all that time off, but summer is short. Go out and enjoy it.

The U.S market has been dropping and the noise is getting louder again. Don’t freak out, keep your game plan tight. I’ll continue my monthly purchases and enjoy these lower prices.

Also that sun is cooking out there – Lather up that sunscreen. Safety Begins With You!

How was your month? What Have You Been Buying or Doing?

Wish you all the best, Cheers! That concludes our July 2019 Passive Income Report.

  1. Nice work as usual, PCI. Keep it up!

  2. Nice work buddy – and looks like a fun month.

Nice to see Dividends & Private investment contribute the same % to your income. In a few years the dividends are gonna be huge compared to that 500/month.

      hey Jordan

Yeah this was a really even month across all the incomes. Dividends should definitely be the big winner next year though. 500 tends to still be the goal for 2 months out of the quarter. That will be nice when they all top that.

      cheers man

Baby is so cute. You obviously is a very happy daddy. And you are doing everything right for your kids. Nice work.

My investment income did not increase too much this year due to my fear to buy more stocks. Now the market was down and my fingers are itchy. If I have enough courage to deploy the cash on hand during market down, my investment income should be up a lot and I might be ready for retirement.

It’s difficult to be greedy when everybody is fearful. I will try my best.

    • Rob says:

      hey May

Thanks alot, we try to be the best we can be. Sometimes you do question if you are doing things the right way though…. But could just be the kids stages. Thanks for the comment.

It’s really difficult to time the market. I like to just deploy it every month. There tends to be a lot of fear out there yet again, hopefully it creates some even better opportunitys. What stocks are you interested in at the moment?

Id love to add either jnj, 3m or more disney this month.

      cheers May!

Oh yeah, passive money falling from the sky. Loved the progress. The most important is the family time. WOW 15 days away from home. That’s a lot. We went on a road trip for 4 days/3 nights and that was plenty. Maybe because it’s a lot more difficult with a one year old baby. But we enjoyed it. Loved the dividend and solar income. That break-even amount is going lower! It’s like seeing a mortgage debt going down each month. That’s awesome!

    • Rob says:

      haha hey German

yeah 1 yr old’s aren’t the best for travelling. Our daughter is now a yr and a half and its a huge difference. Still a lot of work but our older son helps out too. I love seeing the pay down go lower every time i do one of these reports for sure!

These summer months really make me enjoy these panels, winter I question my decision……. Hahaha
      cheers German!

      Cheers!

  8. PCI –

Love the detail and love the different facets that you are receiving income. Those solar powers I am sure going to be bringing in loads of income (especially the next 3 upcoming months). Congrats, $500 in dividend income is a clean hurdle for you now!

  10. Hey Rob! Another solid month, for certain. Glad to see you got to enjoy the nice weather and time outside, too.
Looks like BNS provided most of your YoY gains. Got to love those Canadian banks, no? Perhaps I should get in on some of those.
Impressive YoY growth. I’ll take 19%+ any month. Keep it going.
What! No dividend raises this month? Hopefully, they’ll come strong next month. Nothing better than a dividend raise to power that forward dividend income.
Did you ponder scooping up some DIS after their decline this week?

      hey Paul

Thanks, yeah the banks would be a good buy especially with the current currency conversion! Yeah no raises but i think emera will come threw this month for me.

Im always pondering disney…. haha. this month its 3m jnj or disney?
      decision decisions….

I always say that double digit year over year gains are an impressive feat. Imagine putting up stats like that for 10 or 20 years. Talk about serious compounding. As usual, I love seeing Canadian banks rock in other portfolios. I’m still happy with my TD, BNS and RY. Lately, I have been looking at ENB as another Canadian stock to potentially own. I know it’s a popular name among many DGI. Keep up the good work.

      hey Hut

Yeah if I had these growth rates 10-20 years down the road that would be spectacular. Got to love these canadian banks for sure.

Enbridge is a solid buy at the moment, one of my favorite stocks. The delays in line 3 just show how valuable these existing pipelines are.
      cheers hut

  12. John says:

Another great month of growth Rob, congrats!

I’ve only recently started tracking monthly div/interest pmt numbers because of blogs like yours, but my super rough estimate of Yoy growth from 2018 is also pretty decent. A lot of the same names as you hold; awesome watching those divs grow from banks/telcos.

Do you think there’s any chance that Inter Pipe gets taken out around the $30/share offer price management made public late last week?

Cheers and enjoy the rest of the summer,

    John

    • Rob says:

      hey John

thanks man. That’s awesome! I’m glad blogs like mine helped start you tracking your growth and dividend income. It definitely tends to make investing a little more exciting.

Those telcos and banks love to bump their dividend and im sure there will be more raises before yr end. Emera should bump theirs this month for me.

The ipl thing is interesting and it could happen for sure. Id like to see the heartland complex finish before they sell, but it also depends who the buyer is. If it was enbridge or brookfield infastructure that would be cool. I guess only time will tell. Its nice to see the stock price go up, but it better stay under 28 bucks or i miss the drip! haha

      cheers John
