2 Years Online – Thank You.
2 Years Online – Thank You.
Well PassiveCanadianIncome.ca has officially been online for 2 years now. And I would like to thank all of you my viewers, guests and even online friends. I can honestly say that creating the website 2 years ago was one of the best things I have done in a while. I really enjoy the community and believe it has made me better as a investor, and has opened my eyes up to the brands out there as well as all the passive income options that are right there in front of us. Before the website I can honestly say I didn’t pay much attention to it.
I created the site at the beginning of February in 2017. I had no clue how to setup a website or if anyone would even come by to see what I’m saying. The only thing I knew at the time was that I was learning about stocks and investing from a bunch of online bloggers. Shout out to Roadmap2Retire, Divhut, MillionDollarJourney. These 3 were the original Og’s. I still follow them to this day.
They showed me that anyone can bring in a solid income from dividend investing and when you see others doing it, It gets a lot easier. (Like previous races when people thought they could never beat the land speed record and then someone beat it, and then it got beat and beat again by different people. All the sudden people knew they could do it)
Of course these days I check out a lot more bloggers and chat with a bunch of them over twitter and other social media plat’s. But twitter is the place to be for me.
Going Online
Anyways I started the blog to start journaling our journey and become part of the community shooting ideas off each other easier. If I could help educate someone along the way, man that’s a huge bonus! (I now know the site does as I get a bunch of questions and comments from people coming to the site) If you ever want to contact me, go here to email me. I’ll do my best to answer you and remember there are no dumb questions, we all start somewhere
Things have gotten a little bigger than I expected and I got to say, I love it. But its all of you who keep me going, wanting to be better, and keeping me committed to my goals. Seriously! I actually just answered a email from a follower who was in the law field and wanted to help me get a will done, after reading that I didn’t do it last month. You can’t make this stuff up.
You All Rock!
I’ve seen a bunch of bloggers come and go in the last 2 years but I’m happy to say I recently switched hosts over to SiteGround (affliate). It costs a little more, but definitely improves the speed of site and renewed the website address for a couple more years. I’m in this for a while longer, for sure! Maybe moving the site over is my best way to say thanks to you all at the moment.
I know some site’s show some stats and breakdown’s. I’ll throw down a couple here, but I’d like to state that the site will surpass the 100,000 views mark this month. It’s currently 99,107. Just awesome, this is all time though. I’m not even close to that monthly! Maybe one day, as you will see I think time online is a important factor.
Stats
Here is a chart of my All-time Views until yesterday. I’d like to point out my first year I used to do 2 posts a week and it really started to burn me out, so I stopped at the end of November. The views actually increased when I went to 1 post a week. I’m sure my writing got a little better but it was a big shock at the time.
As you can see views doubled or tripled in the 2nd year blogging and I think this may be the year I see 10k a month traffic. If you are a new writer or blogger I really urge you to keep going. As long as you really enjoy it but are discouraged by lack of traffic, it will come.
I’m sure there is some of you thinking wow that’s a lot of traffic, while some may be surprised its so low. While I am now on most social media platforms, I really only go on Twitter and Facebook and don’t spam the site. Pinterest and Instagram tend to be more work and really don’t feel like natural platforms to me. I know there are a bunch of you out there that do very well on the two though!
I have written 160 posts since the site was created. We can see they tend to get longer and longer. Dunno whats up with that. Guess I’m starting to spit fire.
Almost everything has been going up but those total likes. Arg! lol. Hit that like button……. haha
The site has had 2,685 comments. Half of those are most likely mine as I do my best to respond to everyone.
Earnings
The site has made a couple bucks over the years. Nothing to retire early on, but enough to pay for the site and maybe get a couple dividend stocks.
Adsense – $300.24 At the start this was really slow, but its starting to come in a little faster these days.
Amazon Affiliate – 84.56 Start The Car!
This is nothing to really get excited about, maybe I need to work on my Instagram account and show a little skin, promote a couple products. Maybe the next fyre festival……….
Conclusion
Well that’s a breakdown of my first 2 years online. Slow and steady it continues to grow. While its not making a tonne it is improving me overall and that should be more important. I recommend everyone to have a website, there is surely something you can write about or journal. Thanks again to all of you for your continued support.
Here’s to another 2 years!
Cheers.

Hey I’m Rob, creator of Passive Canadian Income.
In 2011 me and my wife had almost $60,000 in debt and a negative $7,000 Net Worth. Through hard work and financial education we paid all that off. Now we are focusing on increasing our Passive Income Streams to make the money work for us. Feel Free to Follow along the Journey by clicking the Social Media links below or subscribing to get notified of new posts on the sidebar.
2 years – congrats man! I think I’m about a year and a half right now…i’ll have to check. I was always curious what kind of traffic other people get.
Personally I enjoy sites like yours, and others that are more of a personal journey vs the ones that are clearly just blogging to try and make money off the blog. Keep it up my man!
Cheers
hey jordan.
Its almost your 2nd then as well.
Im the same as you. Its awesome seeing everyone elses progress and what they watching and are buying.
Its funny i now go to bnn or other investing sites and the author screams this is my pick of the month, huge headwinds etc etc and at the bottom it states the author has no position in that stock.
We are like i like this stock for this reason etc etc and i bought this many shares. Its different when the author has some skin in the game.
keep doing you man. Love your site as well
cheers Jordan!
Congrats on your two-year Blogiversary! 🙂 Those are great site stats. I just checked mine and while views doubled since i started, they are nowhere near yours, lol. I don’t post as often as you, but I do enjoy blogging and interacting with other members of the DGI community. You always have great posts! So yes, here’s to another 2 years! 😀
hey dynasty
Love it thanks, yeah the community aspect is huge and had improved me a tonne since joining it.
Great to hear about your traffic doubling as well. Thats probably because of your massive dividend months!
haha cheers Dynasty.
Congrats on your 2nd anniversary. As a retiree who depends on dividend income to supplement my old-age pension, I can attest to the fact a diversified portfolio of dividend stocks do make your life more comfortable and secure. If have been in this game a number of years now. While I can count on the dividends to pay for the living expenses, the bull market has so far provided me with the extra money for my annual vacations. My strategy is really quite simple: diversification, beta less than 1, yield at least 4%, dividend paying history at least 7 years (preferably increasing yoy). Your blog not only is pleasant reading, it sometimes provides good insight. You know what, we have quite a few stocks in common in our respective portfolios! Keep up the good work. I would be most disappointed if you ever stopped blogging.
hey George
thanks alot man, love comments like that.
Your living that dream we all wish to achieve on day, congrats to you!
Seems like a great strategy. I love yields in the 4-5% area. They seem pretty secure. I plan on adding some under a 3% yield pep jnj and mmm this year but generally like that 4% rule.
Thanks again for the compliment.
cheers man!
Two years passes by so fast. I’m a happy reader of your blog. Never a dull moment here:):) Being able to share and read other people’s progress is great. Cheers to two years and many more to come.
hey German

Congrats! Quite the accomplishment. Always love looking back and seeing how far we have all come. I just hit my 2 year blogiversary at November I think. My stats are not quite as high as you but I don’t really focus on that. I also don’t post quite as often when I am in school. Keep up the great work and here’s to the next 2 years! Cheers!
hey Daze
thanks man, yeah i miss your posts. Hurry up and finish school already! haha
cheers
Congrats on reaching 2 years, Rob! It’s a big accomplishment for sure. There are so many bloggers that stop at the 6 month to 1 year mark. I’m hoping to see your blog around for years to come man! Keep up the great work.
hey Graham
yeah its surprising how many ive seen go. I feel the site has helped us out tremendously on multiple fronts, so i dont see us dissapearing any time soon.
cheers
You’ve accomplished a tremendous amount in just two years, Rob. Your site stats are impressive, too, which speaks to the effort you’ve put in.
I enjoy visiting PCI, checking out your posts, and hearing your thoughts and insights.
I’ll keep stopping by if you keep posting. 😀
hey Paul
thanks man, glad you enjoy it and keep coming back.
cheers
Nice work Rob, just shows how persistence really pays off – and you’re only 2 years in! Much bigger stats coming in the next 2 years I suspect..
Just keep having fun!
Cheers, Frankie
hey Frankie
So true, just got to keep enjoying blogging.
cheers!
Hey Rob,
Great job on sticking with it over two years.
I agree that blogging is one of the best ways to be held accountable. When you are putting your real numbers out there for the world to see, you both feel motivated to improve them and also get the benefit of having other people critique/share other points of view.
Keep up the momentum and I plan on being here for the years to come with you!
Ryan
hey Ryan
thanks man, great to hear.
Got to love the community aspect of things, keeps ya improving for sure!
Congrats on the 2-year blogiversary! I’m way behind in my reading (and posting) but am happy to have found your blog and connected with you here and on Twitter. It’s great seeing the growth you’ve had in stats, and here’s to the next 2 years of continued growth for both the blog and your passive income!
hey dd
Thanks man. np everyone needs to take a break from the online world every once in awhile.
